The beach of Manganari is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of the whole island of Ios. The southern coast is long, far from the chaos and nightlife of the island.
Reachable by car or scooter in about 45 minutes from Chora, along the road, sometimes a little tortuous, but it will be worth it! Alternatively you can take one of the many bus lines that connect Manganari beach to the main tourist resorts (€ 7.50 return).
Or you can decide to arrive here by sea, climbing on one of the many small boats that leave from the port of Ormos.
The road will be amply rewarded by the wonder of this large and peaceful beach, which is made up of many smaller bays, separated by sand headlands.
Despite its wild and uncontaminated appearance, Manganari is perfectly equipped to welcome tourists with facilities for renting umbrellas and practicing water sports. The cost for an umbrella and 2 sunbeds is around € 7.
Beyond the sand dunes there are also bars and typical taverns, where you can take refreshment and taste the traditional specialties of Greek cuisine.
Given the vastness of the beach, once here we recommend walking to discover more secluded and less frequented bays, where you can dive into the crystal clear waters of the sea in total tranquility. You will discover with amazement that Manganari is characterized by a continuous alternation of areas of fine sand and more massive gravel areas and by immersing yourself in the water you will notice how the seabed changes continuously depth, as you move away from the shore.
