The Potami Waterfalls are located 3 kilometers from the Karlovasi area and are one of the main attractions of the island of Samos! It is a tiny spring that comes out of the stone and trees creating a splendid natural space with which you will fall in love. Especially nature lovers, who will surely love the thriving vegetation that grows in this magical place.
How do I get to the Potami Falls?
To reach the waterfalls you need to get to Potami by car, taking the road west from Karlovasi, then you have to follow a one and a half kilometer path that allows you to reach the waterfalls in a short time. There are beautiful natural wooden passages that allow you to stroll and admire the place in the best possible way.
What do I find at Potami Falls?
When you arrive you will be struck by the scenario that will be revealed in front of your eyes. The small waterfalls and the two beautiful lakes created by them together create a natural spectacle to be admired and explored, among other things, these cute lakes are ideal for a swim, but count that the waters are particularly cold.
Even if you don't want to swim, the fact remains that the first lake you will meet you must cross it if you want to know what is next, you have to travel a canal about 50 meters long but with your feet and hips immersed in the water. After crossing it you will find yourself in front of the first waterfall, a marvel! If you have experience and are agile you can try climbing, but it is not really recommended for those with little agility.
In case you don't want to enter the water, before the canal there is a wooden staircase on the left which will lead you to a wooden tavern. Although many think that a tavern in the middle of the woods makes little sense, it harmoniously joins the surrounding environment! Here you can relax and have a refreshing snack, but a snack not a lunch, otherwise you would not be able to hold the rest of the visit without having energy drops!
Going forward you will find the river that leads to the waterfall again, here you have to enter the water again, get ready for your swimwear and dive because the water gets closer to the waterfall and gets higher, up to 5 meters high. And here the fun begins; diving, swimming, diving, now you are free to let loose! If you don't like it, you can continue to admire the surrounding nature and maybe explore the area a bit. You may happen to know a type of plant or flower that you have never seen!
In addition, the path you take to reach the Falls will give you the opportunity to admire the splendid Church of the Transfiguration dating back to the 11th century, the oldest church on the island of Samos!
Obviously the route we have proposed you can turn it as you prefer, there are no chronological stages to follow in order, you can do what you want. Also because what holiday would it be?
What clothes to wear to visit the Falls?
We advise you to dress in comfortable clothes, because you have to count that it is necessary to walk a bit. Try to wear the most comfortable shoes you have, in some cases you may find yourself having to climb over some obstacle, therefore better to use sneakers or trekking shoes. Then also bring swimsuit, slippers and even a beach towel. So that, after or before having crossed and visited the whole natural area, you can enjoy a nice swim in the waterfalls. Don't worry about arming yourself with umbrellas or other objects to protect yourself from the sun, the whole route is equipped with total shade, so you won't need them.
You cannot miss this magical place, it would be a great sin. It doesn't matter if you are agile or not, if you fall in love with natural places, taking this path will not be challenging at all, on the contrary, you will be so taken by the beauty of the natural area that you won't even notice how many kilometers you have done!
